Carol Doss Sutton

Carol Doss Sutton, 79, of Reidsville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tommy Puryear officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday at 12:30 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Carol was born in Henry County, Virginia to the late James Robert Doss and Della Elleen Sawyer Doss. She loved crafting, painting, and scrapbooking, and enjoyed playing games and watching old movies. She also loved talking about the Bible and the Lord every chance she got. Her faith and family meant everything to her—nothing came before them. Carol especially loved her babies and grandbabies. If anyone spoke badly about her family, she didn’t hesitate to stand up for them. She was headstrong and stubborn, and while she may not have been physically strong, she could hold her own when she needed to. Carol worked hard all her life and showed incredible strength through the challenges she faced. A breast cancer survivor, she endured brain surgeries and went through two hip replacements, yet never let anyone know when she was in pain.

She never saw color—she saw people for who they were, as God’s children. Carol believed we are all God’s people and made sure to teach others to treat everyone with respect. Carol was incredibly generous, especially to strangers in need. She wouldn’t think twice about reaching into her pocketbook to help someone, and when others questioned her or told her to be careful, she would simply say, “That could be Jesus walking there.”

Carol will be remembered for her strong faith, her unwavering love for her family, and the kindness she showed to everyone she met.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Don Ramsey Sutton; her 9-month-old son, Robert Ray; her sisters, Sadie Elvie Agnew, Doris M. Philpott, Jean Doss Cairo, Juanita Spencer, and Barbara Ann Doss; and her brothers, Charles E. Doss, Ray Doss, and Robert (Jack) Alvin Doss.

She is survived by her children, Buford Hutson and Michael Hutson, Connie Stewart and her husband, Stephen, and Pamela Tate and her fiancé, Mark Roberts; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, with one on the way this month; her sister, Edith “Cookie” Dillon; her brothers, Wayne Doss and Junior Doss; and numerous nieces and nephews.
