GREENSBORO- Carl Thomas Childrey, Jr., 80 of Golden Living Starmount, died Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM , Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at Wilkerson Funeral Home, with Rev. Dennis Chapmon officiating. Pallbearers will be Robert Helton, Ricky Fain, Seth Childrey, Jared Childrey, Billy McKinney and Guilio Dattero. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Mr. Childrey was born in Rockingham to the late Carl T. and Janie Tate Childrey, Sr.. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by death of his wife, Helen Eggleston Childrey He was retired from The American Tobacco Company with over 40 years of service. Carl was a life long member of Community Baptist Church. He loved fishing, hunting ,and was a great cook. He was an avid reader and was involved in the senior adult shuffleboard group. Mr. Childrey was loving and devoted husband to his wife of over 50 years. Carl loved his Lord, his family and his job at American Tobacco where his work ethic was outstanding Papa C is survived by his sons, Michael Thomas Childrey of Greensboro, Anthony Harold Childrey and wife Colleen, of Reidsville; grandchildren, Seth Thomas , Jared James, Tabitha Noel and Isaac Luke Childrey; sister, Clara Mae Helton and husband Samuel of Greensboro, and special friend, Greg Thompson. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM At other times, the family will be at 727 Mount Carmel Church Road. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Golden Living Starmount for the compassion and kindness shown to the Childrey family.
