Listen to Obituary

Bobby Joe Roberts, 86, of Brown Summit, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville, NC, with Reverend Kevin Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at Fairgrove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and at other times at the home.

Bobby was born in Guilford County to the late Numie King Roberts and Grace Matilda Angel Roberts. He attended Monticello High School and later completed coursework in farming and agriculture at North Carolina State University. A third-generation tobacco and grain farmer, Bobby spent his life working the land and was an active member of Guilford County’s farming community. He was forward-thinking in his approach to farming and embraced new technology, including the use of mechanical harvesters to make the work more efficient.

Bobby was a faithful member of Browns Summit United Methodist Church for 64 years. In his younger years, he enjoyed water skiing and riding horses, especially Tennessee Walking Horses, several of which he owned over the years. He also loved model airplanes, traveling, and playing guitar with his friends. A talented woodworker, Bobby built many beautiful pieces of furniture. He was as good a mechanic as he was a woodworker. He was an animal lover and had a special place in his heart for his dogs. More than anything, Bobby loved the Lord and the family the Lord had given him. He treasured being involved in their lives, was incredibly proud of each of them, and considered them his greatest blessing.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lillian Faye Foster Roberts; daughter, Elisa Roberts Thames and husband, Bruce; son, “BJ” Roberts and wife, Patty; grandchildren, Andrea Hinkle and husband, Caleb, Elizabeth Pape and husband, Daniel, Heather Bishop and husband, Nic, Karen Horkey and husband, Jeff, and Laurie Pace and husband, Joel; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean “Bug” Page and husband, Harry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Ashton Health and Rehabilitation in McLeansville for the compassionate care they provided to Bobby.
