Betty Kim Julian

Kim Poindexter Julian, 64, of Eden died peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, surrounded by those she loved most.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at Lively Stones Baptist Church Cemetery in Pelham, North Carolina with Pastor Greg Robertson officiating. Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather for a time of fellowship and light refreshments. Please bring a finger food item to share.

Kim, as she was known to all throughout her life, was born at Memorial Hospital in Danville, Virginia to Leroy and Betty Louise Lee Poindexter on February 11, 1962. She was raised alongside her sister Cheryl in Pelham, North Carolina, surrounded with love by both sides of her family. She graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School in 1980.

In 1989, she met Doug Julian through mutual friends and family. She forgave him for his initial dishonesty about his age and they began dating. They were married on June 7, 1990, beginning 36 years of love, laughter, and adventures. She lived for more than thirty years surrounded by the rest of the Julian clan on the family farm.

In December of 1991 her dream came true when she gave birth to her only child, Ryan. Her main mission in life became providing the warmest, most nurturing home for their son to grow spiritually, emotionally, and academically. Her love for her family and the home they built knew no bounds. Together, she, Doug, and Ryan traveled the country, making memories on trips they took each summer break.

Kim worked for over 20 years at Wentworth Elementary school as a teaching assistant in various classrooms before becoming the teacher in the school computer lab. There, she took the same passion for teaching her own child into creating lesson plans for students. She attended Growing Oaks Community Church in Reidsville, where she became an active member of the Faithful Friends small group. Her faith and trust in God grew year upon year, over every hurdle and trial that was placed in her way. Even in the most difficult moments, she would be sure to tell others, “God’s got me”.

Just as she brought joy to so many people’s lives, she had numerous hobbies that brought her joy as well. She loved to shop, especially with her sister, sisters-in-law, mother-in-law and nieces. Her love language was gift giving. Her favorite moment of the entire year was Christmas morning and having the opportunity to make Christmas an unforgettable experience for those she loved most. For many years (after some initial unease), she enjoyed riding along on Doug’s motorcycle with him. Together, they touched nearly every state in the contiguous United States on the back of their Harley Davidson. Later, alongside their best friends, they treasured the opportunity to take their camper to various campgrounds throughout the Southeast. However, no getaway brought her quite the thrill of a trip to Walt Disney World. These trips, often taken simply with Doug, brought her tremendous joy and excitement nearly every year.

In 2016, to her unending joy, she gained the daughter she had always wanted when Ryan married his wife Alecia. Kim rejoiced at the opportunity to finally buy things for a girl and talk with her daughter-in-law while the boys were away. Four years later, she became Nana. Her two granddaughters, Lizzie and Nora, became the light of her life. From creating projects to commemorate their childhood, to redecorating her home to provide a place for them to enjoy, to the final fight of her life, Kim’s whole world was her son, her daughter-in-law, and her grandchildren.

Kim was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Louise Poindexter. She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend, Doug; her son, Ryan (Alecia); her grandchildren, Lizzie and Nora; and her sister, Cheryl (Charles). She also leaves behind her Julian family: Jimmy, Linda, Mitzi, Joel, Jason, and Stacie. Kim’s six nieces and nephews, Matthew (Megan), Kerri (Seth), Ashlie (fiancé Ethan), Matthew, Hunter, and Kenzie, each held a special place in her heart.
