Betty Carol Tate Ellington

Betty Carol Tate Ellington, 81, of Reidsville, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.

Funeral services will be held at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 28, 2022 with Rev. Eric Lineberry officiating.  The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service and other times at the home.

Betty was born in Rockingham County to the late John B. Tate and Elizabeth Jones Tate White. She lived in the Oregon Hill community her entire life and was a very active member at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Etta Carter Women’s Circle, Willing Workers Sunday School Class and the Mature Methodists (M & M’s).  She was a self-employed beautician for 60 years and considered her clients as family.  She was a huge basketball fan, played basketball  in high school and continued her love by following the Rockingham County Cougar Basketball Program. She enjoyed watching  all sports, especially those that her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved in.  Her favorite place to spend time was at Smith Mountain Lake, VA in the Palmer’s Community for over 40 years where she  formed many special friendships and spent a lot of quality time with her family.  She could be found in the garden or on the lawnmower most days and was an avid Rook player.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, James Daniel Ellington; children, Daphne Wall (Woody), Daryl Ellington (Kim), and Darian Ellington (Stephanie); grandchildren, Jake Wall (Lindsay), Jesse Wall (Amanda), Nick Ellington, Logan Ellington, Dawson Ellington, Collin Lejano, Tayler Ellington and Hunter Lejano; great grandchildren, Gage Wall, Ellington “Ellie” Wall, Novah Wall and Daniel Wall; brother, Wayne Tate (Betty); sister, Glenda Gunn (Starling); special friends, Forrest and Evelyn Carroll and family.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 184, Reidsville NC 27323 or Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 184, Reidsville, NC 27323.
