Betsy Jane Jackson

Miss Betsy Jane Jackson, 69, of Reidsville, NC, went home to be with Lord on April 14, 2020 at her home. Miss Jackson was one of the original faculty at the newly formed Rockingham County Senior High School and spent her entire teaching career of 30 years as an Architectural Drafting Teacher. She was an excellent teacher and mentor to many students. Initially she taught drafting using drawing boards using pencil, paper, and a ruler. Students were able to get an entry level job right out of high school as a result of completing her Auto Cad Class. Miss Jackson was the founding sponsor of the RCHS Architecture Club and also served as the Co-Advisor for the school’s yearbook. Miss Jackson was an excellent photographer and taught year-book student staff how to take and develop black and white photos. She also created the architectural design for the present football stadium press box building at RCHS. Miss Jackson was a member of the National Educators Association and served as the Building Representative for Rockingham County High School for a number of years. Betsy loved to travel, she arranged numerous field trips to New York City to see Broadway shows including meeting the actors and behind the scenes tours of clothing and set designs. She also organized tours of Biltmore House and the Greensboro Parade of Homes. There will be private family graveside. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Rockingham County Animal Shelter, 250 Cherokee Road, Reidsville, NC 27320. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.wilkersonfuneral.com

My memory of Ms. Jackson is that of her teaching my son. She always had positive words of my son which was wonderful. I knew her as a positive, caring, and dedicated teacher. Rest in Peace Ms. Jackson. Thank you for your professionalism and dedication.

I was teaching at Rockingham County High when Betsy began her teaching career there. She came into teaching from working in her professional area, anxious to impart her knowledge to her students. We were in the same building together, only a few doors apart. I have many, many fond memories of the years with her until I retired in 1992. When it came close to the time for her retirement, she called several times and we talked it over for it was a tough decision for her to make. After she retired, I would see her around town and we would get into some involved discussions of what we both adamantly believed in. Betsy was a woman of her convictions! I am so sorry she is gone. Our world is less bright. Sharon Vaughan

Through your teaching and guidance during the four years of your Architectural Design class, I published an AutoCAD book through East Carolina University, witnessed one of my high school residential plans being built on Hwy 704 in Rockingham County, and have made a life long career in HVAC/Plumbing Engineering Design working with the most influential Architects and investors in the state of NC and beyond. Thank you for your gift of the Golden Ratio for it will forever be passed to the next generation. Heather Peoples Ratliff

Betsy was a friend and we were classmates at Reidsville Senior High. We graduated together in '69. We both taught for Rockingham County Schools and saw each other at times. Sometimes we would see each when I came to Reidsville and catch up on our lives. She always had a smile and it was great to see her. I will miss her. I extend my sympathy to her family and friends. My God grant you peace and comfort.

Thank you for being a truly beautiful teacher. Thank you for keeping the two left handed drafting machines for the few southpaws. Thank you for those Friday viewings of This Old House while we all created our designs. Thank you for your soft yet sharp wit. Thank you for your drive to push students to their potential. Ms. Jackson, you have always been one of my favorite teachers. Your presence has never been forgotten by many of us, nor will it ever. Your legacy continues through the love and passion you inspired in so many. Rest easy. Wendy Peoples Moore
