Reidsville – ASA WEBSTER GRIFFIN, 84, died Monday, February 18, 2008, at The Rockingham County Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at Reidsville Baptist Church at 2:00 PM, with Dr. Jerry Carter officiating. Pallbearers will be Sean Griffin, Jason Sharp, Gwyn Griffin, Gene Griffin, Jeffrey Campbell, Oliver Gatchalian and Nick Mitchell. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens, with military graveside rites. Mr. Griffin was born in Forsyth County to the late Gwyn Alonzo Nicholas Griffin and Maggie Glidewell Griffin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Cottingham Griffin; brothers, Grover, Delbert, Howard, Harvey, Harrell and Lancy Griffin; sister, Mary Griffin Manning. He was retired from the Winston-Salem City Police Department with over 20 years of service and he served in the US Army during World War II, with the 82nd Airborne Division. Mr. Griffin was a member of the American Legion, Post 1, in Raleigh and was a member of Reidsville Baptist Church. He is survived by his sons, Robert Byron Griffin and wife, Sheila of Clemmons and John Keith Griffin and wife, Robin of Colfax; daughter, Deborah Griffin Campbell and husband, Jackie of Reidsville; grandchildren, April Thomas, Nicole Griffin and Sean Griffin; great grandsons, Griffin Thomas and Tucker Thomas; nephews, Gene Griffin, Gwyn Griffin, and Jimmy Griffin; nieces, Bobbie Avant, Ruth Fox, Rachel Garwood and Betty Wilson.
