U.S. Army Retired Master Sergeant Andrew J. Farmer, Jr. passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026, in Burlington, North Carolina. He was born in Burlington, NC to the late Andrew J. Farmer, Sr., and Maybud Clemons Farmer. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud soldier, and faithful supporter of his fellow veterans.  

The family will receive friends from noon until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Wilkerson Funeral Home. A crypt side service with full military honors will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Andrew honorably served his country in the United States Army for 26 years, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. During his distinguished military career, he attained the rank of Master Sergeant and served as a special agent with the United States Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID). His dedication to those who served continued long after his retirement, as he generously volunteered his time with several veterans’ causes.

In his younger years, Andrew enjoyed bass fishing and playing golf. Above all, he treasured his family and the time he shared with those he loved. He will be remembered for his service, strength, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to his country, his fellow veterans, and his family.

In addition to his parents, Andrew was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lelia Scott “Cookie” Farmer; his son, James Otis Farmer; his brother, Gene Farmer; and his sister, Barbara Jefferies; brothers-in-law, Conrad Scott, Clayborn Scott, Richard Scott, and James Scott. 

He is survived by his children, William R. “Rick” Farmer and wife, Lisa, Janice Farmer Craver, and Michael Hugh Farmer; grandchildren, Jason Farmer and wife, Natalie, Ashley Farmer Cribbs and husband, Thomas, and Andrew Craver; great-grandchildren, Noah Farmer, Tenley Farmer, Luke Cribbs, and Peyton Cribbs; siblings, Paul Farmer (Paula), Robert Farmer (Candy), Fred Farmer, and Linda Yost; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Virginia London, Francis Martin, Glenda Porter (Donnie), and Thomas Scott; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Andrew’s memory to the National Rifle Association, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, The American Legion, or The Gideons International.
