Alma Dickerson Minter, went to her heavenly home on Friday, April 10, 2026.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Happy Home Church with Pastor Jerry Lankford officiating; burial will follow at Danview Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of James and Robin.
Alma was born on March 2, 1942, to the late Thomas and Ethel Dickerson in Rockingham County. She was a lifelong resident of the Ruffin Community and grew up working in the Tobacco fields. While attending Ruffin High School, she was a member of an award-winning quartet. Alma worked for 14 years at Chase Bag Company as a seamstress before working at Morehead Hospital in the cafeteria for another 10 years.
Alma loved flowers, cooking, Ramblin’, and serving her church community at Happy Home. She was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class, Willing Workers Circle, served on numerous committees and was a very active and vital member of the church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Phillip R. Minter; brother, John Eddie Dickerson and an infant brother.
Alma is survived by her three sons, Phillip Minter Jr. and Wanda, James Minter and Robin, Richard Minter and Teresa; grandchildren, Trey Minter and Jessica, Thomas Minter, Jackson Minter and Allison, Ava Minter; great-grandchildren, Ellis, Samuel, Emric, Myles and one on the way; sisters, Cletis Crews, Doris Strader, Vera Strader and Patricia Maness in addition to numerous other extended family members and friends.
A special thank you to her sister, Patricia (Susie), for taking such good care of her the last month of her life and to special nurse, Catherine Page, for the care and support she gave.
