Peggy Brown McCandless, 80, finished her journey surrounded by her family at her home in McLeansville. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Johnsons Baptist Church with burial to follow at Westminster Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and Thursday afternoon at the home of Lisa Taylor. Peggy was born on September 2, 1939 to the late Robert and Callie Brown. She was raised in Guilford County and later married Howard McCandless, Jr., theirs was a true love. Together they raised a family of six children who she loved and adored. Peggy worked for the Guilford County School System, in the cafeteria, for over 25 years before she retired. She was a member of Johnsons Baptist Church and loved her church family dearly. Peggy will be remembered for always being willing to help anyone in need and will be truly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Bob McCandless of the home, Brenda Oakley (Tommy) of Alamance County, Kenny McCandless of the home, Annette Lunsford (Clarence) of McLeansville, Kathy Lineberry (Russell) of Gibsonville, and Mike McCandless of Browns Summit; honorary son, Michael Douglas (Susan) of Climax; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Becky Carroll, Dean Haithcock , Doris Brown, Minnie Lunsford; brother, Larry Brown; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Howard McCandless, Jr.; grandson, Matthew Lunsford; and sister, Barbara Purgason. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, in her honor.
