Maxine Via Moore Loggins

Winton-Salem, NC – Maxine Via Moore Loggins, passed away on October 28, 2020. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Sunday, November 1, 2020 at the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mark Harris officiating. The burial will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery. For those in attendance, please consider others with social distancing. Also, the family request that all participants wear a mask. Maxine was born in 1925 on Christmas Day in Dyersburg, Tennessee to the late Henry Reddick Via and Frances Shaw Via. At a young age she moved with her family to Steele, Missouri, where she grew up and was educated. She learned hard work in the cotton fields of Missouri at a young age and by the time she was 15 she was picking three hundred pounds of cotton a day, from sun up to sun down, earning one dollar for one hundred pounds. During WWII she was employed by the Navy in Hastings, Nebraska where she met her husband, Allan Pratt Moore, who was in service. They married on December 21, 1946 and made their home in the Bethany community, near Reidsville. In that community, she was a member of New Lebanon Christian Church, the Bason Home Demonstration Club and worked with the Rockingham County Farm Bureau with Maynard and Birtie Shelton selling Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance to women and taking them to the doctor for physicals and mammograms. The NC Agricultural Extension Division of Home Demonstration work awarded her the citation for Outstanding Service in the Cancer Control Program. Also, during her years in Bethany, she worked at the school cafeteria, worked in the community to get signatures of all property owners on secondary rd. 2361 in order to get the dangerous gravel road paved in the mid 1960’s from New Lebanon Church through to Highway 65. In 1967 they moved to Winston-Salem due to her husband’s work at Hennis Freight Lines. While there, she worked at Decodex Medical Records and was a licensed CNA Nurse and a member of the Practical Nurses organization of Winston-Salem. She worked in a nursing home until retirement. She always felt her calling was in nursing, because of her ongoing childhood battle with Osteomyelitis, which brought her close to death and months in the hospital. The above words were written by Maxine… She will be remembered for her caring of the sick and helpless, her gracious hospitality as well as the care and love she selflessly demonstrated to her family. She also loved to cook and was known for her yeast and cinnamon rolls. She was featured on front page of the Winston-Salem Journal for her beautiful flowers. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husbands, Allan Pratt Moore and William Bryan Loggins; brother, Flavil R. Via and wife, Rosie; sister, Margie Via Floyd and husband, Neil; brothers-in-law, Tommy Moore and wife, Mary Lea and Oma Moore and wife, Lois; and Rebecca Moore Dunagan and husband, O’Neil.
