Jesse Frank Haskins

Jesse Frank Haskins, Jr., 88, went to be with his Savior Friday, November 2, 2018 at his home surrounded by loved ones. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Covington Wesleyan Church with Reverend Ralph Clayton officiating followed by Masonic Memorial rites. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. The burial will be held at 2:00 PM with Military Honors at Woodbine Baptist Church Cemetery in Manassas, Virginia on Monday, November 5, 2018. Jesse was born on August 13, 1930 in Mayodan, NC to the late Mary Amos and Jesse Frank Haskins, Sr. He was in the US Army serving in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and retired after 20 years of service. During his tenure with the military, he was highly decorated for many acts of courageous service and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Dan River Masonic Lodge 129 for over 50 years. After his military service, he began his civilian career with the North Carolina Department of Transportation in the construction and engineering department and retired with 20 plus years of service. Later he was employed with Smith Stokes from 1996 to 2018, now Hometown Chevrolet. Jesse was a longtime and faithful member of Covington Wesleyan Church. He was an avid NASCAR fan. In addition to his parents, Mr. Haskins was also preceded in death by his wife, Louise Carter Haskins; his sisters, Ruth Duncan, Roberta Shockley and Dona Boyd. Survivors include his children; daughter, Christine Haskins Vera (Hernán) of Anderson, SC; sons, Jesse Frank Haskins, III of San Rafael, CA and Michael Keith Haskins (Julie) of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Adam Haskins, Nicole Cooley (Mark), Stephanie Whittaker (Michael), Nicholas Vera (Rosemary), Emily Fritz (Matthew), Matthew Vera and Lily Day (Blake); great-grandchildren, Owen, Wyatt and Nash Cooley, Ava Whittaker, Sydney and Penny Vera; his sister, Mary Ann Willis of Mayodan and a large extended family. Psalm 34:18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Memorial donations may be made to Covington Wesleyan Church, 3218 Vance St. Ext.
