Dewey Aaron Baynes

Dewey Aaron Baynes, 64, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at his home in Reidsville, NC. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, February, 19 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends and family are invited to come to Wilkerson Funeral Home on Thursday between 8:30am-5:00pm to pay their final respects. Dewey was born on March 23, 1956 to the late Arthur and Gladys Baynes in Newport News, VA. As a young child he moved with his family to Reidsville and called it home from then on. He worked as a maintenance technician for over 30 years, with over 20 at Unifi, followed by Proctor and Gamble, and Twinning’s. For most of those years, he also operated his own HVAC repair business. After “retiring” he continued his HVAC work, generously helping his clients with otherwise costly repairs. Dewey loved collecting coins, antique soda bottles, pocket knives, and well just about anything else he found interesting. He rarely missed an opportunity to expand his collection. He was a proud Papa Baynes that loved spending time with and was thoroughly entertained by his grandchildren. Dewey will be remembered as a quiet and honest man who was always there to help out his friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Doyce B. Baynes; brother, Arthur Baynes Jr. ; brother, Alfred Baynes; and sister, Carol Richardson. Dewey is survived by his children, Jeremy Baynes and wife Kaitlin, Jordan Baynes, five granddaughters, two step grandchildren, sister Mary Carter, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rockingham County Animal Shelter or the American Lung Association. Due to Covid-19 the family asks that everyone wear a face mask and be mindful of social distancing.
