Benjamin "Ben" Phillip Moore

Benjamin “Ben” Phillip Moore, 87, passed away unexpectedly on September 7, 2019 while at Penn Nursing Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday September 10, 2019 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at New Lebanon Christian Church cemetery with military honors performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Monday, September 9th from 6-8 PM and other times at the home. Ben was born November 26, 1931 in Rockingham County to the late Barnett Fleming Moore and Ione McCollum Moore. Ben was known for his dry wit and keen sense of humor. He loved spending time at Smith Mountain Lake fishing and boating with his family. He retired from Golden State Foods as a warehouse supervisor. Before going to Golden State Foods, he enjoyed his time of driving the country as a truck driver. He truly loved his family and they will certainly miss spending time with him. Along with his parents, Ben was preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters. Those surviving include his wife, Ruth Allen Moore (married for 66 years) of the home; son, Harold Moore (Mary Jane) of Summerfield; daughter, Rhonda Middleton (Tim) of Stoneville; grandchildren: Jennifer Bradley (Matt), Phillip Moore (Jen), Greg Middleton (Valerie) and Erin French (Jordan); great grandchildren: Olivia Bradley, Rachel Bradley and Levi French and another little French on the way. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Triad Area NC, 7029 Albert Pick Road, Suite 200, Greensboro, NC 27409 and/or the Wounded Warriors Project, 1990 Fordham Drive, Ste 100, Fayetteville, NC 28304.

Ruth, I was saddened to learn of Bens passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire family as you go through this difficult time. I have many fond memories from the 70s involving Ben ranging from stories about truck driving, skiing at Smith Mountain Lake, motorcycle riding and the list goes on. He was a special guy and will be missed by many.
