Wayne W. Ellzey, Sr.

Wayne W. Ellzey, Sr., age 88, of Reidsville, North Carolina, husband of the late Peggy Poston Ellzey, went to be with the Lord on March 28, 2017. Born in Progress, Mississippi, on September 29, 1928, he was the son of the late Nathaniel and Agnes Ellzey. Wayne committed his life to his country, his career, the outdoors and his family. In his early years, Wayne’s passion for boxing earned him the Golden Gloves Champion title while a young man in Mississippi. Wayne served in the US Navy aboard the USS Power during the Korean war. He retired as a District Superintendent in Corpus Christi, TX with Transcontinental Gas Pipeline after 39 dedicated years of service. He spent his later years in Corpus Christi with a love for fishing and genealogy. He also enjoyed hunting, watching boxing matches, western films, and Dallas Cowboys football. Above all, Wayne was a devoted family man and faithful friend. He leaves behind a legacy of honor and integrity and was a shining example of Christian values with his willingness to help others. His wisdom and quick-witted humor will forever be cherished. He is preceded in death by His sister, Winnie Ellzey Brumfield and brother Jewel Homer Ellzey both of Tylertown, MS, his brother Landers O’Neil Ellzey of Jackson Gap, AL and his brother James D Ellzey of Dallas TX. Wayne is survived by his three sons, Wayne W. Ellzey, Jr. (Susan) of Stokesdale, NC, Anthony Todd Ellzey (Amy) of Round Rock ,TX, and Brad Ellzey (Christina) of Florence, KY; nine grandchildren, Matthew (Quincy), Zachary, Benjamin, Stephanie, William, Zoe, Marissa, Maya, and Katie Ellzey; two great grandchildren, Essie Mae and Nash Ellzey; and special friends, Rick and Sharon Moore of Corpus Christi, TX, and Sandra Patterson of Reidsville, NC. Many of his Transcontinental Gas Pipeline “Transco” co-workers remained as close friendships throughout his life. A special thank you to the staff at Countryside Village Assisted Living in Stokesdale, NC for their loving care and friendship these past two years. A very special thank you to Tabitha, Elisa, Dora Jean, Melissa, and numerous others for their devotion. There will be no formal visitation at Wayne’s request.
