Annie Handy Alverson

Annie Handy Alverson, 85, of 2781 Worsham Mill Road, Ruffin, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 at her home. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Anne was born in Stuart, Virginia to the late Adam Edward and Mary Elizabeth Foley Handy. She was a retiree of Burlington Industries and was a lifetime member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed fishing, making cakes and dancing. Most of all she was an entertainer sharing her jokes. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter Alverson and brothers, Wayne Handy and Edward Handy. Survivors include her son, Sammy Alverson and wife, Kristi; daughters, Marilyn Harrelson and husband, Lanny and Jayne Gibbs; grandchildren, Missy Harrelson, Samantha and Seth Alverson, Mackenzie and Justin Gibbs; sister, Lucy Mae White; special caregivers, Renee’ Paschal, Brenda Hyler, Sheri Conel, Daisy McCollum, Mack Gibbs and Tayla Edwards. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6-8pm and other times at the home. Special thanks to Hospice of Rockingham County and Advanced Home Care for the loving care given to Mrs. Alverson during her illness.
