<description><![CDATA[Reidsville–Doris Smith Smith, 85, formerly of 7824 US 29 Business, died on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Jacob’s Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Reidlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith was born in Brosville, VA and was the daughter of the late Charlie Keen and Ruth Dixon Smith. She was retired from Creighton Shirt Factory. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her hospitality and homemade biscuits made her house a home. She always put others first and enjoyed cooking, flowers and especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was of the Baptist faith. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Smith and 9 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter Patsy Worley; her son, Bobby Smith both of Reidsville; grandchildren, Jon Worley, Ashley Pruitt and Bobby Smith, Jr.; five great grandchildren; brother, Eric Smith of Pelham; sister, Betty Pierce of Reidsville, and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no formal visitation.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://wilkersonfuneral.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/49_115461.jpg" alt="Kendall Watt Griffin, Sr." />Reidsville – Kendall Watt Griffin, Sr. 86, of 408 Clifton Drive, died, Saturday, February18, 2012 at his home.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, February 24, 2012 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Shelton officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro with military rites performed.

Kendall was born in Guilford County to the late Watt and Dura Williams Griffin and was a retiree of Central Carolina Warehouse where he served as CEO of the firm. He served in the US Navy in WWII as a tail gunner on the Avenger Plane. He was also an avid golfer. In addition to his  parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Blackford Griffin; brother, Rodney Griffin and sister, Carlene Donovant. He was lovingly taken care of by Beverley Prater.

Survivors include his daughters, Deborah G. Holden of Greensboro and Emily G. Morgan and husband, Steve of Reidsville; sons, Kendall W. Griffin, Jr. of Bethany and Jeffrey T. Griffin and wife, LaDa of Greensboro; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren and sister , Cleda Woollen numerous nieces  and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 23, at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at the residence.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://wilkersonfuneral.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/49_115509.jpg" alt="Wesley Larry Apple" />Elon- Wesley Larry Apple, 43, of 1415 Stadler Road, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 21st at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rich Fennelle officiating.  Burial will follow at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church.

Wesley was born in Alamance County, NC and graduated from Rockingham County High School and attended Elon College. He worked with PayTel for 19 years before starting his own I.T. business called Alpine Data.  He was a member of Word of Life Family Church in Burlington, where he was the I.T. Director.   Wesley loved the outdoors, hunting, photography and his dog “Happy”.

He is survived by his wife, Vanessa Apple; father, Larry Apple and Step Mother, Pat Apple; mother, Dorothy Hummel; brother, Daniel Apple; sisters, Lorrie Johnson and husband, Joe, Angie Apple and husband, Rob Cybulski; half brother, Joey Coe; half sister, Amy Coe; grand mother, Inez Apple; niece, Elsa Cybulski; nephew, Zach Apple.

The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Monday, February 20th from 5:00 – 8:00 PM.  Other times the family will be at the home of  Inez Apple, 601 Pagetown Road, Elon.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church with Rev. Allen Myers officiating. Pallbearers will be the church softball team. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the home.

Bob was born in Rockingham County to the late Frank and Mary Barker Owen and was a retiree of Sherwin Williams. He was a veteran of the US Army and a member of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church. He enjoyed gardening, college basketball, pro baseball and working puzzles.  

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Owen; son, Brandon Maser and wife, Angie; grandchildren, Katlyn Maser and Landon Maser; sister-in-law, Janet Andrews; brother-in-law Don Andrews and wife, Sharon and mother-in-law Madeline Andrews.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://wilkersonfuneral.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/49_115426.jpg" alt="Elder Willie Penn Brame" />Reidsville–Elder Willie Penn Brame, 75, of 213 Brame Road, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 17, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church with Elder J.A. Keaton, Elder Joey Jenkins and Pastor Randy Wagoner officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Elder Brame was born in Rockingham County to the late Hester Lee and Etta Draper Brame.  He was Elder over Shiloh, Oak Grove, Pine Ridge and Stuart Primitive Baptist Churches.  Willie was a faithful man of the Lord who he served for over 45 years and never missed a day of church.  He also retired from Unifi after 30 years of service.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Clarence “Bud” Brame and infant sister.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Evelyn Hamlett Brame of the home; his son, Tim Brame; daughter, Susan Pegram both of Summerfield; grandchildren, Chris Pegram of Summerfield, Donald Pegram of S.C.; great-grandchild, Riley Pegram of S.C.; brother, Jesse Brame and wife, Edna of Reidsville; sister, Annie Tucker of Reidsville and several nieces, nephews and large extended family.

The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Saturday, February 18th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at the home of daughter, Susan Pegram, 5512 Lazy Creek Lane, Summerfield.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://wilkersonfuneral.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/49_115463.jpg" alt="Oren Benton Walker" />Reidsville: Oren Benton Walker, 87, formerly of Rockingham Lake Road, died Friday, February 17, at the Rockingham County Hospice Home after a long decline in his health.
 A graveside service will be held at Reidlawn Cemetery at 1:00 pm Monday, February 20, with Elder David Underwood officiating. The family regrets that there will be no visitation.
 Oren was born on the Rockingham County and Caswell County line in 1924 to the late John Edward and “Molly”Apple Walker. He was one of eleven children. He graduated from Cobb Memorial High School in Caswell County in 1943. That same year he joined the Army Air Corps. Oren proudly served as an airplane mechanic in the Pacific in Japan and in the Philippines during World War II. He was also a member of the Jefferson Penn Masonic Lodge. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, gardening, and farming. In later years he loved walking and trapping with his constant companion, his white German Shepherd, the late Gabby, a gift from his daughter. Oren was a devout Christian, a Baptist, who has now gone home to his beloved Savior. 
 Oren is survived by his daughter Dr. Victoria Walker Massey of Greensboro, his sister Helen Walker Rumley and husband Tom of Reidsville,  and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
 
The family requests that, instead of flowers, donations be sent to the Rockingham County Hospice Home, P.O. Box 281 Wentworth, NC 27375.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Jones officiating. The family will see friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.  

Mrs. Massey was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to the late George and Lillie Easley Giles and was a retiree of The American Tobacco Company. She was a member of First Congregational Christian Church and was an avid gardener. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jewel Massey; daughter, Joyce Bishop and her brothers and sisters. 

Survivors include her grandsons, Bobby Smith and Ronald C. Smith; sister, Eva Oakley; niece Cheryl Oakley; sister-in-law, Tommie Carter and many extended family members.

Mr. Somers was born in Caswell County to the late Euel and Effie Page Somers and was a truck driver. He was a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church and a veteran of The United States Air Force. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Smith Somers and his granddaughter.

Survivors include his sons, Thomas Somers and wife, Debbie of Elon, James Somers, of Reidsville, Roger Somers of Elon; daughters, Judy Somers and Patricia Stein both of Reidsville, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and sister, Virginia Enoch of Elon.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Lee Eggers officiating. 


Fred was born in Rockingham County to the late Robert Henry Cox and Dora Carroll Cox.  He retired from the Post Office as a rural mail carrier and was a longtime member at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church.  He was a member of NARFE, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, was the oldest member of NC  B.A.S.S. Federation and loved fishing and dancing.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Moore Cox and sister, Vivian Riddle.

He is survived by his children, Linda Cox Hodgin of Greensboro, Fred E. Cox, Jr. and wife, Alice of Reidsville, Terry Levi Cox of Pelham and Wendy Cox Kendrick of Reidsville; grandchildren, Jennifer B. Kellner and husband, Chris, Susan B. Turner and husband, Tee, Russ Cox and wife, Heidi, Toby Cox and wife, Andrea , Josh Cox, Kimberly Powell, Dusten Edelen, T.J. Kendrick and Luke Kendrick; 10 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; brother, George Cox and wife, Lois; sisters, Lois Gentry, Hilda Hundley, Kitty Dyer and husband, Johnny, Betty Collie and husband, Jason, Colleen Austin and husband, Billy.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service and  other times the family will be at the residence.

Many years ago Fred made a decision to donate his body for medical research, therefore the family request no flowers. Memorials may be  made to  Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 9983 Highway 700, Pelham, NC 27311.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://wilkersonfuneral.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/49_115312.jpg" alt="Anne Smith Carter" />Wilmington – Anne Smith Carter, 91, formerly of the Carolina House in Reidsville and 130 NE 23rd Street Oak Island, NC, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Wilmington.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 17, 2012 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with        Rev. Ralph Clayton officiating.  Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.  

Mrs. Carter was born in Rockingham County to the late Chester and Lena Mae Martin Smith . She was a member of Baptist Temple Church where she sang in the choir.  She also loved to bowl, in fact, she was the oldest member of the Rockingham County Women’s Association.  In 2003, at the age of 83 years old, she bowled a 233 game  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her  husbands, James Warren Carter and   Benjamin Franklin King, six brothers and sisters.

Anne is survived by  her son, Thomas Franklin King of Tennessee; daughter, Pennylope K. Nardozzi of Oak Island; grandchildren; Ricky D. Bailey of Oak Island, Amanda King of Tennessee, great grandchildren, Ashley N. Bailey and Ricky Shane Bailey, great great grandchild, Kyler Shane Bailey; sisters, Dorothy S. Shreve of Mayodan and Martine S. Gibson of Winston-Salem.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
